e-TOL on the A24: rates for motorcyclists, caravans and trailers

The toll rules on the A24 Blankenburg Connection apply to all motor vehicles, but rates and rules may differ by vehicle type. Motorcyclists, motorhomes, caravan towers and combinations with trailers each fall into a specific category. This article gives a clear overview of what you pay in e-TOL on the A24 as the driver of a specific vehicle.

Two classes: light and heavy

On the A24, vehicles are divided into two classes. The class is determined automatically based on the licence plate:

  • Light class (up to and including 3,500 kg maximum authorised mass): €1.57 per passage
  • Heavy class (above 3,500 kg maximum authorised mass): €9.49 per passage

Motorcyclists on the A24

Motorcycles fall into the light class and pay €1.57 per passage on the A24. The toll is determined based on the motorcycle's licence plate. There are no separate rates or exceptions for motorcycles.

Caravans and trailers: no extra toll

No extra toll is charged for trailers, semi-trailers or caravans. Only the towing vehicle is charged. A car with a caravan therefore pays the same as a car without a caravan: €1.57, provided the towing vehicle falls in the light class.

This also applies to vans with a trailer. Only the weight and class of the towing vehicle determine the rate.

Motorhomes on the A24

Motorhomes fall into the light class if the maximum authorised mass does not exceed 3,500 kg. Heavier motorhomes (above 3,500 kg) fall into the heavy class and pay €9.49 per passage. The class is based on the vehicle weight registered in the vehicle registration document.

A motorhome above 3,500 kg but electrically powered falls into the heavy class if the maximum authorised mass exceeds 4,250 kg. If the electric motorhome weighs 4,250 kg or less, the rate of €1.57 applies. Check the vehicle registration document for the exact maximum authorised mass of your vehicle.

Electric vehicles with a trailer

Electric vans with a maximum authorised mass of up to and including 4,250 kg fall into the light class and pay €1.57. Electric vehicles above 4,250 kg fall into the heavy class. The trailer does not count towards the class determination.

Automatic payment via MOVE-IZI

Regardless of vehicle type, you can register your licence plate once with MOVE-IZI. The e-TOL is then automatically settled for each passage on the A24. You only pay the official toll amount, with no extra charges.

Practical: check your vehicle class in advance

Not sure which class your vehicle falls into? The maximum authorised mass is listed in your vehicle registration document, in the technical details. The e-TOL system uses this registered data to determine your class. If in doubt, you can also check the RDW website, where vehicle details can be looked up by licence plate.

Driving a combination of vehicle and trailer and unsure what amount you will pay? Keep in mind that only the towing vehicle is charged. The trailer, caravan or semi-trailer does not count in the calculation of the toll amount.

Motorcyclists and caravan towers: register via MOVE-IZI

Even as a motorcyclist or caravan tower, you can register your licence plate with MOVE-IZI. After registration, every passage on the A24 is processed automatically. You only pay the official toll amount. For motorcyclists, that is €1.57 per passage. For caravan towers, the rate of the towing vehicle applies; the caravan itself does not count. Drive worry-free without needing to arrange anything afterwards.
