A24 toll payment: what to do if your number plate is not correctly registered

Toll on the A24 Blankenburg Connection is collected via number plate recognition. There are no toll booths or barriers: cameras mounted on overhead gantries above the road automatically register every vehicle that passes. This system is reliable, but there are situations in which your number plate is not (correctly) processed or is not in the system. This article explains what you can do in those cases. Want to know more about how e-TOL on the A24 works? Read our article about the Blankenburg Connection.

Three situations where your number plate is ‘not correctly registered’

There are broadly three situations in which your number plate is not correctly in the system:

  • You have not registered your number plate with MOVE-IZI and forgot to pay via e-TOL.nl.
  • You have a new number plate (due to a new vehicle or a plate change) and your registration with MOVE-IZI has not been updated.
  • You paid on time via e-TOL.nl but are still receiving a payment reminder.

Situation 1: Not paid via e-TOL.nl and not registered with MOVE-IZI

Did you use the A24 but your number plate is not registered with MOVE-IZI? You will need to pay for your passage or passages yourself via e-TOL.nl. This is possible up to 72 hours (3 days) after your passage. If you do not pay on time, you will receive a payment reminder from e-TOL with €9.00 in administration costs added on top of the original toll amount. If you still do not pay, a fine of €35.00 may be imposed.

Have you received a payment reminder? Pay the outstanding amount including administration costs as quickly as possible via e-TOL.nl to avoid further costs.

Situation 2: New or recently changed number plate

Have you purchased a new vehicle or has your number plate changed for another reason? Your new number plate is not automatically registered with MOVE-IZI. Register your new number plate with us and remove your old one.

What to do: log in to your MOVE-IZI account and add your new number plate. Then remove your old number plate from your account. Check whether there were any passages during the period when your new number plate was not yet registered, and pay for these manually via e-TOL.nl if necessary.

Situation 3: Received a payment reminder despite having already paid

Did you pay on time via e-TOL.nl, or was your number plate active with MOVE-IZI, but are you still receiving a payment reminder? This may be the result of a processing error.

If you do not pay automatically, contact e-TOL via the contact page on e-TOL.nl.

If you pay automatically via MOVE-IZI, contact MOVE-IZI. Keep your proof of payment to hand so you can demonstrate the time and amount of your payment.

Foreign number plates on the A24

Are you driving on the A24 with a foreign number plate? The same rules apply. Foreign number plate holders can register their number plate with MOVE-IZI or pay per passage via e-TOL.nl. If payment is not made, a payment reminder will be sent to the foreign address of the number plate holder.

How to prevent future problems

The simplest way to prevent registration problems is to register your number plate once with MOVE-IZI. After registration, every passage on the A24 is automatically settled based on your number plate. You will never receive an unexpected payment reminder or fine as long as your number plate is active and correctly listed in your account and your payment method is valid.

After purchasing a new vehicle, always check that your new number plate has been added to your MOVE-IZI account. This prevents you from inadvertently receiving a payment reminder after driving the A24 with your new vehicle.

What e-TOL.nl records

e-TOL.nl records every passage on the A24 based on the registered number plate. If you pay automatically, the passage data is forwarded to the provider with whom you have a contract. Via your MOVE-IZI account you can view your passages and payments.

If you do not pay automatically, e-TOL records the date, time and amount of the passage.

Current toll rates on the A24

The current toll rates on the A24 are €1.57 per passage for light vehicles (up to and including 3,500 kg) and €9.49 per passage for heavy vehicles (above 3,500 kg). Always check the current rates on the Toll and prices page, as amounts are indexed annually based on inflation.

The rates mentioned in this article are the rates as of 1 January 2026. Toll rates are indexed annually based on inflation and may change.

Frequently asked questions

I received a payment reminder but never drove on the A24. What should I do?

Do you pay e-TOL automatically via MOVE-IZI or another toll service provider? Contact your provider. They can investigate what has happened.

Do you not pay automatically? Contact e-TOL via e-TOL.nl. State that you did not make the passage in question and request verification of the registered passage. Keep your vehicle registration document to hand.

Can I still pay after the 72-hour period has passed?

Yes, you can still pay via e-TOL.nl, but €9.00 in administration costs will have been added to the payment reminder. If that payment is also not made, an additional fine of €35.00 may be imposed.

What do I do if I have a new vehicle?

Log in to your MOVE-IZI account, add your new number plate and remove the old one. Check whether there were any passages during the interim period and pay for these manually via e-TOL.nl if necessary.

My payment method with MOVE-IZI has expired. What are the consequences?

If your payment method is no longer valid, MOVE-IZI can no longer automatically process toll payments. Update your payment method in your MOVE-IZI account to prevent passages from not being settled.

Can a foreign driver also pay via MOVE-IZI?

Yes. Foreign number plate holders can register their number plate with MOVE-IZI and pay toll automatically on the A24. Payment per passage via e-TOL.nl is also available to foreign number plate holders.
